The Lamp and the Next Step
You never really know where your shoes will take you when you keep saying yes to the Lord.
I used to think faith meant eventually getting a clear plan- a map, a timeline, a sense of arrival. I wanted to know where I was headed before I took the step. I wanted confirmation, reassurance, and preferably a five-year outline.
But Scripture never promises a spotlight.
It promises a lamp.
A lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
~Psalm 119:105
A lamp is interesting.
A lamp doesn’t show you the mountain top.
It doesn’t show you next year.
It doesn’t even show you the whole road.
It shows you just enough… so you don’t trip today.
And honestly, that can feel frustrating. We want clarity before obedience. God usually gives obedience before clarity.
Why God Leads This Way
I’ve noticed something over the years: if I can see the whole plan, I start trusting the plan instead of trusting Him.
But when I only have enough light for the next step, I have to stay close.
The lamp keeps you dependent.
It keeps you praying.
It keeps you humble.
It keeps you present.
We live in a world obsessed with outcomes-goals, milestones, five-year visions, life strategies. None of those are bad, but God often does His deepest work in the ordinary, daily decisions nobody applauds.
The quiet obedience.
The unseen discipline.
The small choices that shape who we become.
Faithfulness rarely feels dramatic.
It feels repetitive.
The Holy Work of Today
Most spiritual growth doesn’t happen in big moments.
It happens in Tuesdays.
It looks like:
forgiving when you’d rather rehearse the hurt
choosing patience with your family
caring for your health when no one is watching
showing up again after discouragement
speaking kindly when you’re tired
doing the task in front of you instead of waiting for a “bigger calling”
We want purpose to feel exciting. God often makes it look like consistency.
We are usually planting long before we are harvesting.
And seeds are unimpressive while they’re in the soil.
What I Never Expected
Here’s something I truly didn’t see coming in my life.
I thought I was joining a supplement company.
Instead, I found myself walking alongside women in mindset, growth, confidence, healing, discipline, boundaries, and faith. I’ve watched women start believing they matter again. I’ve seen courage grow where insecurity lived for years.
Some came for energy.
Some came for gut health.
But what they really needed was hope… and someone to walk with them.
It turns out when people start feeling better physically, they start asking deeper questions spiritually and emotionally. Health often opens the door to maturity.
I didn’t set out to do ministry.
But God uses ordinary places.
A kitchen table.
A phone call.
A message thread.
A conversation about habits and consistency.
Sometimes growth begins with caring for the body He gave us and then spreads into how we think, how we speak to ourselves, how we treat others, and how we trust Him.
Obedience rarely looks spiritual at first.
But God grows people in everyday spaces.
Faith, Maturity, and Mindset
Spiritual growth and personal growth aren’t enemies.
Very often, they’re partners.
As we grow in Christ:
we take responsibility for our choices
we renew our thinking
we learn discipline instead of living by feelings
we stop quitting every time something feels hard
we become steadier, kinder, and more peaceful
Maturity is simply choosing what is right over what is easy… repeatedly.
And that doesn’t happen in one decision.
It happens step by step — lamp light by lamp light.
Journaling Prompts
Take a few minutes and sit with these:
Where in my life am I waiting for certainty before I obey?
What is one step I already know God has been nudging me to take?
Am I avoiding a small act of faith because it feels insignificant?
What “seed” am I planting right now that I’m tempted to give up on?
Where do I need to grow? In mindset, discipline, forgiveness, or trust?
What would faithfulness today actually look like in practical terms?
A Simple Prayer
Lord,
Thank You for not asking me to figure out my whole life, only to walk with You today. Forgive me for the times I’ve demanded clarity instead of choosing trust. Help me to be faithful in small things and patient in slow seasons.
Give me courage for the step I can see, humility to stay close to You, and peace when I don’t understand where the road leads. Grow my heart, my thinking, and my character so my life reflects You in ordinary moments.
Teach me to plant without fear and trust You with the harvest.
Amen.
